Running Injury Clinic: Prevention & Recovery
Whether you are training for your first 5K or you have been pounding the roads for years, running injuries are frustratingly common. The good news is that with the right support, most of them are entirely avoidable, and when they do happen, a full return to running is well within reach.
Why runners get injured
Running places significant and repetitive load on the body. When training loads increase too quickly, technique breaks down, or underlying weaknesses go unaddressed, the result is often pain that sidelines you just when your fitness is building. The most common culprits we see at Cambridgeshire Sports Physio and Back Care include runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain), shin splints, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, and IT band syndrome. These are not just ‘niggles to run through’. Left untreated, they tend to worsen and become harder to shift.
What our running injury clinic offers
Our clinic in Abbots Ripton, just outside Huntingdon, provides a thorough assessment of how you move, not just where it hurts. We look at your motor patterns, balance, mobility, as well as your trunk and pelvic stability, and your training history to identify exactly what is driving the problem. From there, we build a personalised rehabilitation plan that gets you back on your feet as quickly and safely as possible.
Treatment typically involves a combination of hands-on physiotherapy, motor repatterning, targeted strength and conditioning exercises, load management advice, and, where helpful, gait retraining. We will also talk through your training plan and make practical suggestions to reduce the risk of the same injury recurring.
Prevention is just as important as cure
Many of the runners who come through our door wish they had come sooner. A single session before problems develop can highlight weak links in the chain and save months of frustrating time off. If you are building your mileage, returning after a break, or simply noticing the odd ache that will not go away, it is worth getting checked out.
We work with runners of all abilities, from complete beginners to club-level athletes. Whatever your goal, we are here to help you reach it and keep going once you do. To book an assessment at our Huntingdon clinic, call us on 01487 773 088 or book online.
