Frailty Prevention for Over 70s: Stay Active & Strong

Frailty Prevention for Over 70s: Stay Active & Strong

Getting older does not have to mean slowing down. With the right support and a little guidance, it is entirely possible to maintain your strength, balance, flexibility, and crucially, your independence well into your seventies, eighties, and beyond. At Cambridgeshire Sports Physio and Back Care, this is something we feel genuinely passionate about.

What is frailty, and why does it matter?

Frailty is not simply a matter of age. It describes a state where the body becomes more vulnerable to illness, falls, and a loss of function. It often develops gradually and can go unnoticed until a minor illness or injury causes a significant setback. The encouraging news is that frailty is not inevitable. With targeted exercise and physiotherapy, it is possible to reverse or significantly slow its progression.

Strength, balance and flexibility training for older adults

Our physiotherapists work with older adults to design safe, appropriate, and effective exercise programmes. These focus on the triad of building the muscle strength, balance that reduce the risk of falls, and flexibility to ensure you have movement options. These all help you stay active in the ways that matter most to you, whether that is gardening, walking, playing with grandchildren, or simply moving around the house with ease.

We start by getting to know you: your current abilities, your goals, any health conditions that need to be taken into account, and what you want your life to look like. From there, we develop a programme that fits around you, with clear guidance and plenty of support along the way.

It is never too late to start

We regularly see patients who had written off the idea of exercise as something ‘not for them anymore’. With the right approach and proper professional support, the change in how people feel, move, and think about themselves can be remarkable.

If you are concerned about your mobility, your balance, or your general fitness as you get older, we would love to hear from you. Our clinic is based in Abbots Ripton near Huntingdon, with free parking and a warm, friendly welcome. Call us on 01487 773 088 or book an appointment online.
