Psychotherapy & Counselling

Life can be hectic and messy and how we feel about our lives (and ourselves) can sometimes reflect this.

Being able to explore your thoughts and emotions can help uncover how you really feel and what you really want to change. Doing this in a safe environment away from your day-to-day busyness with someone who will listen and not judge makes the exploration all the more effective.

Psychotherapy – the psychotherapist pays close attention to how tough experiences have left a lasting mark on you. These are the times when something difficult has happened, and you feel scared, helpless, or not safe. When you talk with a psychotherapist, the goal is to understand what life events have affected you, rather than saying there’s something wrong with you. The psychotherapist listens with care and attempts to understand you, rather than simply giving you a medical label.

Counselling is classed as one of the ‘talking therapies’. It offers the opportunity to discuss any concerns you have, any problems, thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment. Often people seek counselling when they face difficulties and want to make changes in their lives. It involves talking to someone, on a professional basis, who is there for you to help you explore your thoughts, ideas and feelings in greater depth.

Counsellors won’t tell you what to do or direct you how to behave. Instead, they’ll help you figure out what has led you to be feeling unhappy or unsettled in your current circumstances. Openly examining our thoughts and feelings helps us to work out, formulate and implement a plan that will lead to change. This may involve figuring out ways to better cope with challenges or possibly making changes to the way you respond and react to your life situations.
